Long time JTC Running member Len Ferman did not need to juggle when he broke the 800 meter record at the Florida Senior Games December 14, 2014. Len reports:
“I achieved my audacious athletic goal for the year. I ran the 800 meters in 2:13.8. In addition, by winning the gold medal for the event, I qualified to run in the USATF National Masters Outdoor Championships at UNF July 23 – 26, 2015.”
“The old record of 2:14.9 had stood since 1998. I had been aiming for this one for the past several months and this might be the only shot I would ever get at it. The records are only maintained for performances recorded at the Florida Senior Games, and they take place only once a year. As a result, I had 2:14.9 posted on my phone so I could see the goal every day since October.”
“After last year’s ‘5 minute mile’, at the Florida Senior Games 1500 meter run, which was documented nicely in The Starting Line issue 404, I now hold both middle distance event records (800 and 1500) for the state of Florida for people over 50 years of age.”
“I am also now ranked #14 in the country in the 800 meters in the 50 – 54 age group.”
