The Fall 2017 Half Marathon Class is a 12-week program preparing individuals to participate in a half marathon this fall. The class starts on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1st Place Sports, Town Center Store (4870 Big Island Drive) at 6:30 PM (come prepared for a short run that evening).
The class can serve as a stepping stone for those planning to complete a marathon in December or January. The target half marathon is the Subaru Distance Classic Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017. If not able to participate on Thanksgiving Day, a good alternate half marathon would be the Ameris Bank Half Marathon on December 16, 2017.

About The Race: Begun in December 1977 as an English-style true cross-country race, our 5k competition for individuals and teams has become renowned for its unique, challenging course on the campus of Jacksonville University.

The GATE River Run is the largest 15K race in the United States and will once again serve as the USA 15K Championship with America’s top Olympic athletes competing for $85,000 in prize money. Last year over 24,000 runners and walkers participated in one of our featured events including the 15K, The Florida Times-Union 5K for Charity, the Junior River Run, and the Brooks Rehabilitation Challenge Mile. The Jacksonville Athletic Club is thrilled to partner with the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens to host what we think is the world’s first pole vault competition inside of a Zoo. This will be a fun experience for athletes, fans, and animals alike! JTC Running is a sponsor.
Entry fee is $40 per vaulter, which includes a t-shirt AND free entry into the Zoo for the entire day. The entry deadline is midnight, Friday, July 13th.
Schedule: 10:30 am- Girls Pole Vault 2:30 pm- Boys Pole Vault
A table will be at the zoo entry for the athletes to pick up their bib numbers and zoo tickets.
