National Running Day was observed on Wednesday, June 3 with a 5k fun run at 1st Place Sports Baymeadows. Some 170 Club members and others paid an entry fee of $10 as a donation to Marathon High, a local nonprofit program that challenges at-risk teens to train for a 13.1 mile half-marathon in order to develop positive futures. After the run everyone enjoyed hot dogs and burgers grilled by 1st Place Sports staff and adults washed it down with free beer! A lucky few were able to grab one of the awesome cookies baked by Laura VanCleave.
JTC Running matched each donation, so Deborah Dunham of Marathon High will be presented a check for $3400 at the Club’s annual Awards Banquet June 25.
